27 year old Elizabeth Amirian, known to friends and family as Bipsy, was a singer and piano player living in Murrieta, California at the time of her death.
She was engaged to 25 year old Mickey Wagstaff. Their intended wedding date was less than a month away.
Elizabeth had expressed some reservation about her upcoming
nuptials and met with her fiancé to break things off on February 10, 2009.
Mickey was a devout Seventh Day Adventist who had been kicked out of his home by his family. They were unhappy that he had chosen to marry Elizabeth, a Jew.
Mickey had been living in Elizabeth’s minivan and saving money before the wedding. Elizabeth had quit her job as a barista to pursue music full time and had planned to release an album in March 2009.
On February 10, Elizabeth got in the van with Mickey. The two argued and Mickey punched Elizabeth, tied her up and raped her. He held her captive in the van for 2 days.
The couple drove around before ending up on the third floor of a parking garage at The Promenade mall in Temecula, California.
A security officer at the mall noticed the van, stopped and shined his flashlight in the window. Mickey grabbed a hunting knife and waved it at the officer who retreated to his car.
Mickey then stabbed Elizabeth 39 times in the head and neck. Her legs were bound with a man’s dress shirt. She died at the scene.
Mickey said that he was afraid that he would be in trouble for assaulting and raping Elizabeth, so he panicked and stabbed her.
When police arrived, Mickey refused to get out of the van. Officers broke a window and tased him before dragging him out of the vehicle by his feet.
Mickey was convicted of first degree murder December 1, 2011. He was sentenced to life without parole.
